About Our Agency
The Monterey County Sheriff's Office is structured into three primary Bureaus: Administrative Operations, Corrections Operations, and Enforcement Operations.
The functions of the Sheriff’s Office bureaus encompass the management of the county correctional facilities, assuring security for the Superior Courts, administering a countywide communications network, and managing records and identification that includes records, warrants, civil processes, and more. Our agency has 324 Sworn Deputies, 165 Civilian Employees, and $166M Annual Budget.
Situated on the Central Coast of California, Monterey County is renowned for its diverse landscapes, from the rugged coastline of Big Sur to the agricultural fields of Salinas Valley. Covering an area of approximately 3,771 square miles, much of Monterey County is rural, with the Monterey County Sheriff's Office providing vital crime prevention and law enforcement services to the unincorporated areas, ensuring the safety and security of the community.

The services we provide and the manner in which we provide them are essential to fulfilling our mission. Collaborating closely with the community and other service agencies is crucial in identifying and addressing the challenges we face. We are proud to affirm that the Monterey County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to delivering quality service through our Community Policing Programs.
As we advance into the twenty-first century, it is imperative to align closely with community needs and to foster and uphold successful solutions with the least amount of imposition required. We believe that by working collectively, we can prevent crimes within our community, particularly those of significant concern, such as gun violence, the spread of deadly synthetic drugs, domestic violence, and hate crimes. It is through ongoing honest communication and engagement with the community that our partnership will thrive.
