Traffic Engineering

Traffic Engineering Division

The Monterey County Traffic Engineering Division is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of traffic on County Maintained Roads. Responsibilities include the maintenance of traffic signals, the installation of new traffic control devices, and the review of the circulation effects of proposed development.

The Traffic Engineering Division responds to citizen requests for the installation of various traffic control devices and addresses issues that users experience with the County roadway system.

Speed Limits

The majority of speed limits are based on an Engineering and Traffic Survey (E&TS). In order for these speed limits to be enforceable by radar the E&TS need to support the posted speed limit.
