Gonzales Library is moving and will be closed from  November 25-January 9, 2026.  Please join us on January 10, 2026 for the grand opening at our new location at 630 Fifth Street!  Bookmobile services will be provided at Central Park on the following dates during closure from 3-5:30pm:  11/20, 12/04, 12/11, 12/18, and 1/08.  If you need assistance, please call the Soledad Branch at 831-386-6890. Online services are available 24/7.

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY OBSERVED: All Monterey County Free Libraries locations will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 27 and 28. Branch History

Catalina Manzaneli de Munrás established the city of Soledad in 1873, naming the township in honor of the brave padres who had founded the mission across the river. The mission was named honoring Nuestra Señora de la Soledad (Our Lady of Solitude). The town was incorporated on May 9, 1921.

The Soledad Library was established on March 8, 1915, and was affectionately known as the "Reading Room." The current library, located next to the new Soledad Unified School District High School on Gabilan Street, opened in 1999.
