Branch History

The small ranching community of Parkfield is located in the southeastern corner of Monterey County, approximately 112 miles from Salinas. The name "Parkfield" comes from the park that features natural oak trees, which the settlement chose to surround. This peaceful town is known for its minor seismic activity due to its proximity to the San Andreas Fault.

Since September 24, 1914, Monterey County has been dedicated to offering library services to the residents of Parkfield. The library is housed in a charming building that originally served as a residence for teachers from the nearby school. After undergoing renovations made possible exclusively by the hard labor of community members, this community hub reopened its doors in 2020, welcoming visitors to the revitalized space.
