Branch History

Marina, a city located along Monterey Bay, was incorporated in 1975, just three years after its founder’s death. In 1912, William Locke-Paddon, a real estate entrepreneur from San Francisco, purchased 1,500 acres of Pueblo Tract No. 1 from the City Lands of Monterey and divided it into small plots. The name "Marina" is derived from the Spanish word for "shore" or "seacoast."
The Marina branch was established on April 24, 1916. The Marina Library relocated to its current building in September 2007. This new facility features a wing that serves as the administrative headquarters for the Monterey County Free Libraries System, which supports the network of neighborhood branches across the county. /p>
