Branch History
MCFL has a rich history of mobile book services that stretches back to its early days. It all began with Anne Hadden, who navigated the winding trails on horseback to bring stories and knowledge directly to the community. In 1954, the county introduced a charming scarlet and cream-colored traveling library that roamed the scenic roads, making literature accessible to even the most remote areas.
The legacy of mobile literacy continues today with a state-of-the-art custom-built bookmobiles designed to meet the current needs of patrons. MCFL operates two bookmobiles that are dedicated to serving those who live far from traditional library branches or encounter challenges in accessing library services. The Bookmobiles ensure that everyone in Monterey County can experience the joy of reading and the wealth of resources available through the library.
