Branch History

Aromas is a small community located at the boundary between Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties. The name "Aromas" comes from the land grant known as Aromitas y Agua Caliente, which translates to "little odors and warm water," referring to the area’s sulfur water. Like many place names in Monterey County, the choice of "Aromas" was influenced by the Post Office, which preferred this shorter name over "Aromitas."

The Aromas Branch began service on March 30, 1914, at 365 Blohm Avenue. On July 1, 1967, the library moved to its new location at the corner of Carpenteria and Blohm, in a former classroom.
