Description:
  • The Housing Element is required by state law as included in the County of Monterey General Plan and in accordance with the current 6th Cycle Update to plan adequate housing for everyone in the unincorporated Countywide community. The process for updating the Housing Element requires review and approval by California Housing and Community Development (CA HCD) to determine compliance with state housing law. Current Status:
  • NEW! The California Department of Housing and Community Development (CA HCD) notified the County on May 12, 2026, that the draft HEU6 resubmitted on March 13, 2026 is in “Statutory Compliance” – CA HCD Comment Letter received May 12, 2026. The Housing Element will be determined in “Substantial Compliance” with Housing Element law once the Board of Supervisors approves the County’s rezoning package and associated Programmatic Environmental Impact Report (PEIR). Staff continues to work on the consultant team on a draft PEIR and rezoning package for consideration by the public, Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors in summer/fall of 2026.

  • CLOSED - Notice of Preparation of the draft Program Environmental Impact Report for 30-day public review was available October 21st  to November 20th, 2024.

    CLOSED - Public Scoping Meeting for the draft Program Environmental Impact Report was held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 6:00 PM
