News Release: The Signatures In Lieu of Filing Fee Petition Period Kicks Off the June 2, 2026, Statewide Primary Election.

Salinas, CA – The Signatures In Lieu of Filing Fee Petition Period for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Primary Election opens on December 19, 2025 and will run until 5:00 p.m. on February 4, 2026. This period is open to candidates for offices that require a filing fee including all judicial, nonpartisan county, and voter-nominated state and federal offices appearing on the primary ballot.

SALINAS, CA – Final certified results for the November 4, 2025, Statewide Special Election are available at https://www.countyofmonterey.gov/government/departments-a-h/elections/election-results. Final results include 108,532 votes cast with a turnout of 49.64% based on a registration of 218,619 voters. Urgency legislation for this election required certification on December 2.


Upcoming Signature Cure Deadline

SALINAS, CA – The Monterey County Elections Department will certify the final results of the November 4, 2025, Statewide Special Election on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. The certification deadline is established by emergency legislation provided by Senate Bill No. 280, Chapter 97.

Any Monterey County voter who needs a replacement mail ballot can call (831) 796-1499 by the deadline to have one mailed directly. The combined Monterey County Elections Ballot and local Voter Information Pamphlet will begin mailing later this week. State Voter Information Guides are now in the mail and will continue to mail into next week. All active voters will receive a ballot in the mail and in-person voting options will be available.

SALINAS, CA – The United States Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) announced that the County of Monterey: Books and Ballots program was selected to be honored for excellence in election administration with a national Clearinghouse Award for Innovation and New Practices in Election Administration. Also known as the “Clearies,” the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) presents the awards program annually to celebrate the hard work of election offices across the country. Now in its ninth year, this year’s Clearie Awards honored programs that took place during the 2024 presidential election year.
