The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office offers volunteer and internship opportunities during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.  Interns have the opportunity to work closely with prosecutors in a wide variety of areas of prosecution. If selected, the volunteer/intern will be assigned duties and responsibilities by the unit supervisor in accordance with the policies and procedures as directed by the District Attorney. An orientation will consist of the confidential nature of all phases of the program; the volunteer/intern's commitment to the program, especially as it relates to time commitment; the drug free, alcohol free and smoke free working environment in the office; the specific job expectations; and discussion and receipt of the Policy and Procedure Manual for Volunteers and Interns.

The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office offers internship opportunities for law students at all stages of their legal education. First-year students may apply for legal internships, while second- and third-year students may serve as certified legal interns. These positions are unpaid but provide invaluable courtroom and case preparation experience. In addition, the office occasionally offers a paid post-bar legal internship, subject to availability and office needs.
