One of the highest responsibilities for all public employees is to assist in preserving the life and property of the residents of our County. All County of Monterey employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers (DSWs) by State Law (CA Gov. Code, §3101). When the Board of Supervisors and County Administrative Officer declare a local emergency, any County employee may be deployed as a DSW. During emergencies such as fires, floods, earthquakes, or public health crises, non-essential staff may be reassigned to support response efforts.
