County of Monterey Weekly News Briefing

The County of Monterey weekly News Briefing is a program to inform our local news media, Board of Supervisors, legislative and local city representatives and the public on county issues and activities. It is currently conducted online via Zoom.

We use the format for White House News Briefings as our guide. News Media is invited to attend and ask questions, and the entire program is made available to the public via live stream or recording.

The public, city leaders and other community partners are invited each week to watch the briefing which is live streamed on County social media:

1st Amendment Speech prepared for the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors meeting, Tuesday, October 21, 2025. Proclaiming the week of October 20, 2025 as “Freedom of Speech Week” in Monterey County. 

Board of Supervisor offices, legislative offices and news media members are invited to join the zoom call. News Media members are invited to ask questions of presenters to inform their reporting and to better inform the public on topics presented.

For our briefing, news media is defined as:

  • Someone employed or working for or at a known news organization.
  • The organization broadcasts or publishes news and information locally, regionally or nationally.
  • A reporter and news outlet which adheres to the Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press Statement of News Values and Principles or have their own reporting standard which can be provided to us.
