Temporary Changes to Air Monitoring Operations in Moss Landing

Post Date:07/20/2026 4:33 PM

Vistra notified the County of Monterey that, effective July 6, 2026, temporary changes were made to the air monitoring and sampling program associated with the Moss Landing Battery Fire response.

Air monitoring stations are currently operating only during daytime working hours because battery removal activities are not occurring overnight or on weekends, and no demolition is occurring at this time. Air samples continue to be collected; however, routine laboratory analysis for metals has been temporarily suspended. Samples will be analyzed for metals if PM2.5 24-hour average screening levels are exceeded or if National Weather Service Wind Advisory conditions occur.

According to Vistra, this temporary protocol will remain in place until demolition activities resume in the fall. Additional changes to the monitoring program are being planned in preparation for the restart of demolition work and will be communicated before implementation.
