On March 17, 2026, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors received an update on the Moss Landing battery fire response, including coordination efforts, community sampling, and preliminary findings from the Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) Report Equivalent.(see note below)
Updates were provided by the Monterey County Environmental Health Bureau and the County’s Department of Emergency Management, along with state partner agencies including the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). DTSC presented an overview of risk assessment methods and summarized preliminary findings from the draft PEA Report Equivalent.
