Take the Survey - Understanding Identity Preferences in California’s Latino Communities (CDPH)

Post Date:11/05/2025 11:33 AM

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is asking for input on how Latino communities in California prefer to be identified.

Why this matters:

Language shapes how we connect with communities. Terms like Latino, Latinx, Latine, and Hispanic are often used interchangeably, but each carries different meanings and cultural significance. To ensure our messaging is respectful, inclusive and aligned with community preferences, we need your input.

Who should take this survey:

This survey is intended for staff at Community-Based Organizations, Local Agencies, Promotoras, Community Health Workers and others who work closely with Latino communities across California.

How you can help:

The survey takes about 10 minutes and is available in English and Spanish. Please share with colleagues and partners who work closely with Latino communities.

Contact and Questions:

This effort is led by the CDPH Latino Health Equity Workgroup. While this is an initial step, survey feedback will help lay the foundation for more culturally responsive public health communication.
