Construction of the Carmel Valley Road and Laureles Grade Roundabout project will begin 06/23/2025 and is expected to last nine months

Post Date:06/20/2025 2:28 PM

The County of Monterey will begin the construction of the Carmel Valley Road and Laureles Grade Roundabout project on 06/23/2025. This work will take place at the intersection of Carmel Valley Road and Laureles Grade. The work to be done includes the installation of a roundabout at the intersection to improve the safety and efficiency of moving traffic through the intersection.

This project construction schedule is estimated to be approximately 9 months and is anticipated to be completed by 03/11/2026 (barring inclement weather or factors beyond County control).
Work will occur during the day between the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

To minimize traffic delays and inconvenience to the motoring public, the temporary traffic control during construction includes temporary concrete barriers and a temporary traffic signal system that will be implemented as-needed. The project will be constructed in phases, so that two-way traffic will be allowed at all times. Emergency services will have access 24/7. If there is an emergency event, County staff will coordinate construction activity with first responders accordingly. County staff have also been working with nearby property owners and businesses to adjust and accommodate as best as possible during this construction activity.

Listed below are events in which the project will pause work due to heavy traffic.

• Car Week - 8/8/2025 to 8/18/2025

During that time, there will be no construction work, and construction equipment will be temporarily moved from the area.

This is a priority project of the Carmel Valley Road Advisory Committee (CVRAC), and is funded by the Carmel Valley Traffic Mitigation Fee, a Monterey Bay Air Resources District (MBARD) grant, and local County Measure X funds. The estimated construction cost is $3,811,840. Teichert Construction, from Pleasanton, CA, was awarded the construction contract for this project.

Monterey County will make every effort to keep the community updated on the progress of the work and the impacts to traffic. The project has a project webpage at:
